Intriguing, disturbing and shocking rolled into one, I discovered Petrina Hicks. Hicks gently subverts the pervasive language of photography as it is used publicity, creating edgy images that intrigue and disturb. While she primarily works with people, her works go beyond the boundaries of portraiture as she finds beauty in perceived imperfections and renders idealized beauty strange.
What do you think???
Her series titled Beautiful Creatures appeals to our senses. Immediately alluring the hyper-real photographs, are all portrayed so clearly and with such control that they are reminiscent of advertisements.
It reminds me of the creepy one that hangs in the back of films, though i love the pale kids and the white hair, i suppose being pale i am biased but these photo's are intriguing yet make me slightly nervous with a slight shiver down the spinal cord.
This cat scares the marshmallows out of me!
